Erawan Museum
Erawan museum is located in the Samut Prakan Province, Thailand. The ornate structure is a sure cure for your wander lust. The museum provides insight on Thai culture, art and history in all its glory. Like Dante’s divine comedy, the structure of the museum is based on the Hindu traditional representation of the heavens, the earth and the underworld, divided in three levels. The First floor represents the underworld and accordingly, there are vases and busts from Qing and Ming dynasties of ancient China. There are also pictures on the walls here that showcase the history of the museum itself, from construction to the concept. It is located in the belly of the elephant statue. The Second floor representing earth contains precious artefacts from Europe and China. The hall also has a display of Guanyin, the Chinese goddess with a thousand arms. The third floor is representative of the Travatimsa Heaven from Buddhist legend. The floor has ancient relics that are related to Buddha, and Buddha statues. The walls are lined with art pieces depicting the cosmos. The main piece of attraction lies outside of the museum. It is a three headed elephant statue, and it’s gigantic. The massive statue is a landmark when it comes to craftsmanship and grandeur. The bronze statue is 29 metres high, 39 meters long and stands miraculously on a 15 meter high pedestal.
