Bangkok Hua Lamphong railway station

Bangkok Hua Lamphong railway station lies in the centre of the Pathum wan district and is considered the main railway station in Thailand. The railway station was officially opened in 1916 however, the beginning of its construction dates back to 1910 during the reign of King Rama. At first Bangkok Hua Lamphong railway station was used for both freights and passengers. However, from 1960 the station was turned to be only for passengers. Many locals also call this railway station “Krungthep”.

Bangkok Hua Lamphong railway station is considered the main station, there are also River Kwai and Kanchanaburi. The best thing is that arrivals and departure boards times are always displayed at the station. Sometimes, there might be delays because arrivals are often late on long distance routes. So estimated arrival times can never be guaranteed. You can easily buy a train ticket because there are many English signs and guides and you will be able to choose from many categories and seats. You can buy tickets for the same day or in advance from 1st, 2nd or 3rd classes. The third class is the cheapest one. There is also a ticket office for foreign tourists that you can find in the far left-hand corner if you enter the station from the front. The English-speaking staff are very friendly and will help you throughout the whole process. You will also be able find reasonable restaurants, mini markets and coffee shops where you can get lunch and refresh. You can also get some delicious Thai snacks and drinks from the vending machines. You will find toilets and showers on the far-right hand side of the station with both Thai and English signs!
